The 5 Best Essential Oils To Clear And Strengthen Your Energy

We all have our moments when we feel strong, ready to weather any storm, where we exhale rainbows and moonbeams, we feel great about the decisions we make, we are in our zone of genius, we feel strong and solid in who we are, we get the sleep we need, and we feel so right with the world that we might as well have bowel movements that smell like freshly baked cinnamon buns a la “Family Guy”.

Then, there are those other moments where we feel weak, where we’d rather crawl into a dark corner rather than face our day, where we feel overwhelmed by the pressures that surround us, where we feel so clogged up with the energetic toxins of others that we operate from fears that are not even our own, where we feel like our boss’ verbal punching bag, our inner demons have a feast on our low vibrations, and we feel stuck, immobile, fearful, and not in our power.

This article is about essential oils to use for exactly those times.

Many who don’t understand the deep healing effects of essential oils may dismiss them as something that simply smells nice. And, of course, even at that basic level, who doesn’t want that?

But, what many are finally starting to catch up to is that essential oils create healing on various levels – physical, emotional, spiritual, etheric.

In fact, in my private practice, I use them at the end of a session to seal in the healing, as part of Tui Na (Chinese Medical massage) after acupuncture treatments for pain management, to help calm a patient when anxiety is heightened, when the soul needs room to heal, when a patient is coming down with a cold, or when something deep is getting released emotionally. There are so many uses!

Because I learned essential oil therapy based on Chinese Medicine, as well as how it effects the chakras and energy system, I’m a bit biased on why I love them so!

And, the reason it’s SO important to clear your energy when you’re trying to strengthen it is because…

It is very difficult to get stronger within yourself when you’re not in touch with YOUR energy.

If you’re the “energy sponge” type that empaths commonly are, you’ll be soaking up all the toxic energy spills that people spew out. Why? Because empaths can FEEL what others need, and often feel that means they’re OBLIGATED to fill them. (News flash!: YOU AREN’T RESPONSIBLE FOR OTHER PEOPLE’S STUFF.)

And, if you’re too busy trying to integrate other peoples’ needs, guess who’s energy gets lost in the shuffle?

YOUR OWN.

So, practice ways to clear your energy, so that you can get in touch with it, hold it close to you, cultivate it with love, protect it like a mofo, and strengthen it into fierceness!

Here are the 5 best essential oils to clear and strengthen your energy:

Pine (Pin Yin Name: Song Jie, Latin: Pinus Sylvestris) – This oil is a middle note, warming, and goes to the Lungs and Kidneys in Chinese Medicine. It’s anti-fungal, anti-infection, an expectorant, and supports the adrenals. For musculoskeletal issues, it’s great when used in a compress for low back, dull, arthritic pain. It helps when there’s fatigue and nervous exhaustion, shallow breathing, and phlegm. Because it is a yang herb (and yang is upwardly and outwardly moving), it transforms self-loathing, and is associated with changing a negative self-image and feelings of remorse, replacing guilt with forgiveness and self-acceptance. This oil is good for people who lose their purpose in life, and is great for breakups, because it is cleansing and uplifting. This is also good for those who do energy work or are clairvoyant.

Cypress (Pin Yin Name: Cong Bai, Latin: Cupressus Sempervirens) – This is a middle/base note, is cooling, and enters the Lungs, Kidneys, and Spleen in Chinese Medicine. It’s helpful for the what we Chinese Medicine practitioners call “Damp Bi”, which essentially means the kind of body pain that is worse when it’s damp or raining outside, and is often caused by “damp” conditions (usually caused by chronic Spleen Qi Deficiency). It’s a great oil with astringent and expectorant properties, can be used topically for hemorrhoids, helps with excessive sweating, and helps with chronic TMJ pain (temporomandibular joint dysfunction) and chronic shoulder pain. But, why I LOVE this oil so is because of it’s ability to help us create STRONGER BOUNDARIES. Yes! One of the Spleen’s job is to contain, such as when we bruise easily (it’s the Spleen’s job to contain the blood in the vessels.) It is also its job to maintain healthy boundaries in the body and energetically. For when you give, or take, too much. It helps you say, “Stop! I’m done.”

Cedarwood (Latin: Cedrus Atlantica) – This oil is a base note. Some sources say it’s warm in nature, others say it’s cool in nature. One thing’s for sure, in Chinese Medicine, it enters the Lungs, Kidneys, and Urinary Bladder. Cedarwood is calming, strengthening, and grounding. It’s great for people that feel insecure and emotionally sensitive. It helps to stabilize the will, ground your sense of self, as well as help you stand your ground. It’s wonderful for stabilizing anxiety, and helps you be patient with yourself and others. It also calms the Spirit (or Shen, as it’s called in Chinese Medicine.)

Frankincense (Pin Yin Name: Ru Xiang, Latin: Boswellia Carterii) – I’ve mentioned this oil in my blog post, “My Top 5 Fave Essential Oils For Healing The Soul“. But, I mention it here, again, because this is absolutely one of my FAVORITE oils. Ev-er. It’s a base note, enters the Lungs, Heart, and Kidneys in Chinese Medicine. It’s an expectorant, helps with circulatory problems, rheumatism, asthma, bronchitis, and helps heal scars and wounds. It actually aligns the chakras, and is especially helpful for the upper chakras. It’s one of the best oils for grief. It also engenders cells, which in turn engenders DNA, which transforms consciousness. It relaxes the diaphragm when we have anxiety. Rubbing just a few drops of this expensive oil in your hands will raise your vibration. It clears your energy and detoxifies the air (which is especially helpful if you ever have “unwanted spiritual visitors” in your living space). When I feel the world coming down around me, I get some frankincense onto the center of my chest (Heart Chakra), stat!

Cinnamon (Pin Yin Name: Rou Gui, Latin: Cinnamomum Zeylanicum) – This oil is a base note with a hot temperature that enters the Liver, Spleen, Kidney, and Urinary Bladder in Chinese Medicine. As with all essential oils, you absolutely MUST use a carrier oil when applying Cinnamon, since it can irritate the skin on its own (I use jojoba for most practical applications). And, also, as with almost all essential oils, you don’t need very much to pack a potent punch. It invigorates the blood to promote menstruation and relieve cramps, expels cold in the body, and builds the Kidney Yang and Stomach. A small amount can be used in a warming liniment for muscle tightness and neck tension. It is an oil that is for the seekers in this world who feel like an open, raw nerve, and who feel too sensitive to what we are exposed to. It helps you set up boundaries, get a strong Solar Plexus Chakra, and brings up the fire within you. Bring on the Goddess!

Thanks for this awesome article! I love essential oils and I’ve been wanting to learn more about how to use them from a Chinese perspective as well as from an energetic perspective, I can’t wait to read some of your other posts. I’m really feeling the effects of my empathic-ness right now and I know I have dampness in my spleen so this was just perfect. It’s no wonder I love Cypress soooo much! I just need to gift myself with actually using it for myself more. I’m really quick to be a healer to others and not so quick to be a healer to myself. The other oil I use for energetic protection is a blend created by essential oil guru Gary Young called White Angelica. It’s like putting a protective layer of golden light around myself, I love it! So in combination with your recommendations for clearing my energy I am more hopeful that I can be a part of this world without getting so bogged down by others’ energies!! Thank you!

White Angelica was my very first oil, 18 years ago! I actually dislike it a lot, because it smells so sweet, so i rarely use it 🙁 Your comment along with this article gave me a fanastic idea though: I’m going to add the oils mentioned above, to my White Angelica spray! Maybe i’ll use it more often that way!
